Every hotel in the Healing Hotels of the World collection has earned the Healing Certified mark by passing our Healing Excellence Standards. These define what a healing hotel delivers in practice.
The Healing Excellence Standards
The Standards cover more than 730 touch points across 12 operational areas, from the design of guest rooms to the training of practitioners to the sourcing of food. They were developed by our founders, Anne Biging and Dr. Elisabeth Ixmeier, with leading experts in healing, hospitality, and architecture, then refined over eighteen years of working alongside member hotels.
A property does not enter the collection until it has been audited against the full set. Once Healing Certified, it stays accountable through ongoing review.
This is why a guest can arrive at a Healing Hotel anywhere in the world and find a consistent foundation: a comparable standard across programs, practitioners, environment, and cuisine.
What to Expect at a Healing Certified Resort
A stay at a Healing Certified resort attends to body, mind, and soul. Across our member resorts, you will find:
- An atmosphere of stillness in common and private spaces, designed for rest.
- A team trained in the rhythm of a healing stay, from pre-arrival to post-departure.
- Holistic programs grounded in named modalities: Ayurveda, F.X. Mayr, IHHT, Watsu, traditional Chinese medicine, delivered by qualified practitioners.
- Rooms and villas designed for genuine rest: natural materials, considered light, sleep-supportive details.
- A range of physical practice in keeping with the property: yoga, hiking, swimming, breathwork, movement therapy.
- Reflective practice through the day: meditation, mindful movement, sometimes gardening, cooking, or art.
- A landscape with direct access to nature, treated as part of the healing environment.
- Cuisine built around the region: seasonal, prepared to support your program.
- Sustainable and socially responsible practices, reflecting that healing extends beyond the guest.
What to Expect at a Healing Certified Urban Hotel
Healing Certified urban hotels carry the same standards into a city setting, where the demands are different. Your stay may not be primarily for healing, but the property is built to support restoration alongside whatever else brings you there. You will find:
- A Healing Concierge who can guide you to the right modalities, practitioners, and experiences inside the hotel and across the city.
- Rooms designed for genuine rest: quiet, with sleep-supportive details.
- Plant-forward and dietary-specific menus in the restaurant and through room service.
- Access to holistic treatments and spa facilities, on property or nearby.
- A range of physical practice: gym, classes, or curated nearby options.
- Access to outdoor space or nature, even in dense urban locations.
- Sustainable and socially responsible operations consistent with the wider collection.
How a Hotel Becomes Healing Certified
Member hotels enter the collection through a structured audit against the Healing Excellence Standards — a virtual assessment covering programs, practitioners, environment, cuisine, sustainability, and team culture. Hotels considering certification can read more under Become a Member Hotel.
